A Special Nursery Visit from Mrs Dowling 🦽🩼
As part of our ongoing “People Who Help Us” theme, we were thrilled to welcome one of our nursery parents, who is an occupational therapist, to share insights about her vital role in the community. Mrs Dowling's visit provided the children with a hands-on understanding of how occupational therapists assist individuals in leading more independent and fulfilling lives.
During her visit, Mrs Dowling explained that occupational therapists help people of all ages perform daily activities that might be challenging. She brought along some special equipment that some children and adults might use to help them in their day to day lives. The children had the opportunity to explore a child’s wheelchair, learning how it aids mobility and independence. They were fascinated to see how it operates and even took turns maneuvering it. She also introduced a leg brace, explaining how it supports individuals who have difficulty walking. These interactive demonstrations allowed the children to develop empathy and understanding for individuals who use such equipment, fostering a sense of inclusivity and awareness.
The visit was not only educational but also inspiring. The children learned about the importance of helping professions and how occupational therapists contribute to the well-being of others. It sparked meaningful conversations about diversity, accessibility, and the various ways people support one another in the community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs Dowling for dedicating her time and sharing her expertise.
