As part of Compost Awareness Week, the Eco council welcomed Sharon from New Leaf Compost. Sharon taught the children all about using a ‘no dig’ approach to gardening. This involves placing cardboard on top of old soil and then covering with a thick layer of compost before planting new flowers/plants. This will hopefully reduce weeds, enrich the soil, encourage plant growth and possibly even encourage some animal friends to visit!

We are very grateful to Sharon who not only shared her amazing knowledge and skills but she also donated more organic, peat free compost from New Leaf Compost to our school.
We would also like to thank #SmurfitWestrock Packing Solutions Belfast for kindly donating large sheets of cardboard to help get us started.
Finally, a huge thank you to Mrs Kerr and Mr Devenney for their continued help and support to maintain our wonderful garden space.
