Shared Education in Primary 2

15th Apr 2025
Primary 2 have thoroughly enjoyed participating in Shared Education with the children from Whitehouse Primary this year. It has been a really positive experience for both pupils and teachers alike!

The children participated in a range of carefully planned activities that fostered their creativity, communication skills, problem solving and decision making skills, and encouraged them to develop both independence and working with others.

Some of the outdoor activities included: a sound scavenger hunt, a nature walk, identifying different colours within a colour palette and matching objects to it and moving our bodies in different ways using equipment.

The children developed positive relationships during table-top play with some activities such as: sorting objects, building using lego and larger bricks, drawing, using ICT to enhance mathematics and literacy through whiteboard games and  fine motor tasks like playdough, threading and cutting. The children participated in group discussions for PDMU lessons, and this was enhanced through the use of the Sesame Tree programme.

The last session at St James's involved the P2 children inviting the nursery children to come for a Teddy Bear's Picnic. The children had lots of fun following the Bear's footprints and gathering in the nursery garden. They enjoyed some tasty treats whilst listening to songs and talking to the nursery children. The children loved playing with the nursery children in their fantastic outdoor play area to top off such a great day!

To end this year's Shared Education programme, the children travelled by bus to Hazelbank. They explored the wonderful sensory garden followed by a walk along the seafront. We were so lucky that it was a lovely, sunny day and we were so grateful to have had such a wonderful experience with our Whitehouse friends!
