Visit from the Children's Commissioner

16th May 2025

We had a wonderful Day is St James's PS and Nursery Unit, when the Children's Commissioner Chris Quinn accompanied by his team, came to visit. Chris spoke to the children in years 3-7 about his work and taught them, using a range of props and puppets, about children's rights. He introduced Shari Holmes, one of his legal team, to the children. Shari was a pupil in St James's a long time ago and she was delighted to be retracing her steps. What a wonderful role model for our children to follow.
While he was in the school, Chris took time, with the Lord Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Neil Kelly, to officially open our Nursery Unit Thrive Community Garden. A number of partners came together to celebrate the tremendous work done in our school garden this year. The Eco Council, Pupil Council and of course the nursery children, watched, cheered and counted down as the ribbon was cut. (see follow up post)
Chris also visited the children in Years 1, 2  and in the learning support classes. He was very impressed with the children's ability to listen and respond and show beautiful manners. He promises to come back again soon.
