This year, we are studying the topic of ‘Hunger’ in Y7, looking at hunger in the world today and also focusing on the great Irish famine. To begin with, we wanted to do some Art that linked to our theme. We looked at visual metaphors and how other artists have represented abstract nouns with striking images. With this experience, we began creating our own visual metaphor for hunger. We created an hour glass with food turning to sand and used perspective to create a background showing a drought affected area. We loved using a variety of media including different types of paper, oil pastels, real sand, glue, outlining pens and markers.
